THE 2017 AIPP AUSTRALIAN PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR

The prize is a trophy, certificate and $10,000 cash.

Competing against many of the best photographers in the world, to win the AIPP Australian Professional Photographer of the Year is the achievement of a lifetime, a career milestone like no other. The only way you can earn this title is with four exceptional images that delight and excite a judging panel of your peers.

ELIGIBILITY:

The entrant must first win an eligible category (as outlined on page 7).

• All category winners will then be further assessed by an expert panel to determine the overall PPY winner. The expert panel is looking for four individual images that exhibit techincal excellence, impact, innovation, creativity and diversity.

• The entrant must be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia who must have resided here for a minimum of three months within the last 24 months of the closing date.

• Overseas, Emerging & Student photographers are not eligible for this award.

 

‘THE 2017 AIPP EMERGING PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR’

THE WINNER RECEIVES A TROPHY, $750 CASH & ENTRY INTO APPA 2018

• The title winner is determined from the top three highest aggregate submissions of three images entered by an AIPP Emerging Member. Aggregate score must be 240 or greater. A selected panel of judges then determines the winner from these three submissions.

• All entries must comply with the APPA Entry Rules and Conditions in all material respects except that emerging members may only enter a maximum of three prints.

• All Emerging photographers work will be judged within the categories listed. There will not be a separate judging.

 

‘THE 2017 AIPP STUDENT PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR’

THE WINNER RECEIVES A TROPHY, $750 CASH & ENTRY INTO APPA 2018

• The title winner is determined from the top three highest aggregate submissions of three images entered by a student. Aggregate score must be 240 or greater. A selected panel of judges then determines the winner from these three submissions. Students must be currently enrolled in an approved tertiary institute by the closing date to be eligible.

• The awards are open to all students studying photography at a tertiary level within Australia. Entry fees are as outlined in the opening pages.

• All entries must comply with the APPA Entry Rules and Terms & Conditions in all material respects except that students may only enter a maximum of three prints.

• Students do not need to supply their entries in an approved print case if their entries are being lodged by their Institution. Entries lodged in an institution case will be returned in the same case. See T&C’s 7 Shipping page 31

• Students are required to go through the online entry process.

• All Student photographers work will be judged within the categories listed. There will not be a separate judging.

 

‘THE 2017 AIPP TERTIARY PHOTOGRAPHY INSTITUTION OF THE YEAR’

THE WINNER RECEIVES A TROPHY

• The winning institution will be determined by the aggregate of the five highest submissions from their students (each student can enter up to three prints each).

• Students are invited to submit their images as part of a tertiary institution. To do so, they MUST nominate their Institution on the online Entry Form.

• For the institution to be eligible for the award, a minimum of five of its students must enter three prints each.

• The winner of the Tertiary Photography Institution of the Year award will be determined from the aggregate of the five highest scoring portfolios from the institutions students. This effectively means that to win, an institution needs at least five students to enter three prints each.

 

‘THE 2017 AIPP AUSTRALIAN CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR’

THE WINNER RECEIVES A TROPHY, $1000 CASH & ENTRY INTO APPA 2018

• This category recognises photographers who have skills in several areas, or who may not wish to specialise in any one category.

• Images cannot be entered directly into this category. Instead, the winner is determined by the highest aggregate of images entered in any two or more of the other categories (not including sub-categories).

 

‘THE 2017 AIPP OVERSEAS PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR’

THE WINNER RECEIVES A TROPHY, $750 CASH & ENTRY INTO APPA 2018

This award is open to all overseas professional photographers who are not Australian residents. The overseas photographer of the year award is determined by the highest aggregate submission of 4 images entered by an overseas entrant.

 

‘THE 2017 HIGHEST SCORING IMAGE AWARD’

THE WINNER RECEIVES A TROPHY AND $500 CASH

This award is for the overall highest scoring image.
