Rule Changes for 2016

2016 SEES THE CONTINUATION OF THE RESTRUCTURING OF THE AIPP AWARDS SYSTEM.

THE MAIN CHANGES FOR 2016 ARE:

WHO IS SEEDED?

For 2016 we have seeded all members who currently hold a APPA Achievement of Associate, Master of Photography, Grand Master of Photography. If you are unsure if you are seeded please email [email protected]

NON SEEDED ENTRY INTO THE 2016 AIPP APPA

If you are not seeded, in order to enter the AIPP APPA you will need to first enter your local state Epson awards and “qualify” for entry into APPA. To qualify you need to have two or more of your images achieve scores of 80 or higher in the state awards.

If you do achieve at least 2 images of 80 or higher, you can enter the 2016 AIPP APPA, with either the same entries, or different images if you wish. It is you the photographer who qualifies to enter APPA, not your qualifying images.

CHANGES TO RULES

New category For 2016 we have introduced a new category, Newborn. Please read the rules for full details.

Album, Book and Creative categories will not be offered at state awards but will be offered as categories at APPA 2016.

“Speculative” or “Commissioned” work can now be entered into the Fashion, Advertising and Commercial categories. Definition of commissioned - For the purpose of the awards a commissioned work is considered to be a product of a commercial agreement undertaken between a photographer and their client. Speculative means work with the intent of sale and self-promotion (eg. portfolio)

Wedding - If several photographic elements are used, all the elements must have been taken at the same wedding with the exclusion of textures and borders

Images taken at workshops - All Images taken over the duration of the workshop, tutorial, or similar tuition are ineligible, Irrespective for whether the image submitted was taken under the direct instruction of the instructor or presenter. E.g. If a workshop started at 9am and finished at 5pm that night and images taken within that time cannot be submitted. If you stay after the completion of the workshop or tuition then those images can be entered.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR CATEGORIES TO REMAIN STAND ALONE AT STATE AWARDS

All categories will be offered in all states. However, if less than three eligible entrants (entering 4 images each) enter a category, that category will be classed as a non stand alone category and will be judged as part of a suitable core category. The following are the “core categories” for 2016: Commercial, Landscape, Wedding, Portrait, Illustrative and Documentary. To win a core category it will still be necessary to achieve a minimum aggregate score of 320.

Once entries have closed, if a category doesn’t have 3 eligible entrants, all images entered into the category will be judged in the associated core category;
Portrait – Newborn, Family and Pet/Animal
Documentary – Travel, Sport, Birth, Science Wild Life and Wild Places
Commercial – Advertising and Fashion
Illustrative – Alternative Process
Wedding and Landscape have no associated categories

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR CATEGORIES TO REMAIN STAND ALONE AT APPA AWARDS

For all categories at APPA 2016 a minimum of 10 eligible entrants (entering 4 images each) must enter the category for it to remain a stand-alone category. Once entries have closed, if a category doesn’t have 10 eligible entrants, all images entered into the category will be judged in the associated core category (as outlined above).

CAN I ENTER MY APPA PRINTS INTO MY STATE AWARDS?

If you are seeded then you can submit images previously entered into APPA.
If you are not seeded then you can’t submit images previously entered into APPA.
The intent of this is to encourage all entrants to enter images into the state awards first.

WILDCARD ENTRIES INTO THE 2016 AIPP APPA

Like all good rules, we recognise there may be exceptions.

If you are not seeded, but believe you should be treated as though you were, tell us why and our Awards Team will consider your circumstances with the possibility of offering you a wildcard direct entry into APPA.

The type of circumstances which may give rise to a wildcard entry are:
- Personal circumstances which have prevented you from achieving the necessary 1 point
- Change of membership category from emerging member to accredited member where you believe your previous awards justify a wildcard.
